Stafford attractions, local Stafford attractions, Staffordshire
No visit to Stafford would be complete without a tour of the Stafford Castle, not least because of the wonderful panoramic views to be seen from its hilltop vantage point. The castle itself is now in ruins, but there’s the castle’s visitor centre to inform you of the castle’s history and has many archaeological finds to view.
The National Trust owned Shugborough Estate is a stunning late 17th century house packed full of treasures. Wander around the house first before discovering the garden and the stable block complete with servants’ quarters. There’s also a rare breeds centre and tea room for when you need a rest.
For an interesting day out with mixed activities on offer, take a trip to the Amerton Farm. Here you can walk around the farm and see the animals, buy some local produce from the farm shop, or indulge in a complementary therapy, all before stocking up on garden supplies at their garden centre. There’s also a kid’s play area to ensure that everyone has something to interest them.
Not only is Shire Hall a beautiful building in its own right, it is also home to the Shire Hall Gallery that displays a varied collection of contemporary art with changing exhibitions throughout the year. What’s more admission to this attraction is free of charge.
Just to the south east of Stafford lies an area of picturesque countryside in the form of Cannock Chase. Check out the Forest Centre either on foot, by bike, or on horseback. There’s also a visitors centre to get you acquainted with all that’s on offer and a museum outlining some of the area’s history.
